The Ādažu Čipsi Cinema programme has been created in partnership with wonderful local and foreign film festival partners. This year’s programme will revisit the past and linger there alongside the works of legendary directors Federico Fellini and William Wyler as well as local legends Varis Brasla, Gunārs Piesis and many more.
This will be our first year of partnership with the independent cinema Kino Bize. In partnership with the US embassy, they will light up the sandy dunes of Salacgrīva with four classic cinematic stories: ‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show’, ‘Roman Holiday’, ‘It Happened One Night’ and ‘The White Sheik’.
The Ādažu Čipsi Cinema programme always looks for the most current developments in the field of domestic films, and in particular this year it can be seen that documentary films, with various stories about our heroes, are prevailing in the Latvian film environment. Added in the programme to the already announced films there are the story about unique team work in director Dzintars Dreibergs’ latest film ‘VEF 54. sezona’ and the peculiar story of Līga Gaisa ‘Tā dullā Strengas dēļ’, which tells how actor Juris Strenga, for already ten years, have been gathering around him the locals to stage an opera. The choice of the libretto depends on a, to Strenga’s mind, topical event of the year or social and political topicality.
The short-film programme features Ksenija Zaķe’s latest short-film ‘Zivs’, which is a story about an old man, Alberts, who, guided by longings and solitary desperation, has agreed to a spiritism session conducted by Velta, a mobile shop seller, in hope to regain his dead wife. Director Astra Zoldnere’s latest work ‘Trauslā sirds’ offers an absurd story about impossible love, which, ironically, takes place on Christmas, when not everyone is happy and loved. Two strangers meet in peculiar environment – in a morgue.
Like every year, the cinema programme will also cater to the younger audiences, with a special programme prepared by the Riga International Film Festival in partnership with Atom Art and Kristiansand International Children's Film Festival in Norway as well as Just Film partners in Estonia. The programme will feature lovely modelling clay and puppet animation films, among which there is Finnish director Ulrika Bengts’ film ‘The Disciple’, which was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
Our annual festival cooperation partners, the National Film Festival Lielais Kristaps and the Latvian Filmmakers Union ‘Kino visiem un visur Latvijā’ in their project, which is supported by State Culture Capital Foundation and the National Film Centre of Latvia, will offer a special insight into the Latvian film canon, highlighting such films as ‘Nāves Ēnā’, ‘Baltie zvani’, ‘Vecāks par desmit minūtēm’, director Rūdolfs Mings’ first full-length film 'Ļaunuma atspulgs', and cartoons ‘Kabata’, ‘Pavasaris Vārnu ielā’, ‘Zaķīšu pirtiņa’, ‘Zīļuks’, ‘Baltā un Sārtulis’.
The Film Festival 2Annas will provide an insight to the most topical virtual environment, music and viral animations, inviting their authors to drop their virtual veils and tell the audience about their works; also, the best short-films of the year from the festival Baltic Shorts will be shown.
The Festival’s three-day ticket without a tent place costs EUR 57 and EUR 63 with a tent place. The tickets can be bought on www.positivusfestival.com, from Biļešu Serviss offices and at Nordea ATMs. As the Festival comes nearer, the ticket price will increase.
As already announced, the Lattelecom stage will feature Kraftwerk, Bastille, Ellie Goulding, Elbow, The Kooks, The 1975, Daughter, Anna Calvi, The Horrors, You Me At Six, AlunaGeorge, NONONO, FM Belfast, And So I Watch You From Afar.
The Nordea Stage will feature Tricky, Chet Faker, Pharoah Sanders Quartet, Laura Mvula, Junip, Temples, Of Montreal, MØ, Future Islands, King Charles, Kid Karate, Justina Lee Brown&Latvian Blues Band, Birth Of Joy and Dzelzs Vilka Jauno Jāņu Orķestris.
