Continuing the excellent tradition, Positivus festival and Tallinn Music Week will also be introducing this year’s festival visitors to some of the most exciting and talented Estonian artists. Baltic’s biggest city festival’s stage will offer a two day programme – Wilhelm, Sillamaa Trad.Attack! and Marten Kuningas will perform on July 19th with Agro Vals and Three Leg Dog and Kalii Briis playing on July 20th.
In less than a year Wilhelm have performed in almost all of the biggest Estonian venues and events, to ever-increasing critical acclaim. The two fragile female vocals, accompanied by various string instruments and percussions create an exciting mixture of jazz and indie-pop, enrapturing each and every audience member.
Sandra Sillamaa Trad.Attack! highlight the most exciting aspects of Estonian folk music. The band consists of a guitarist, drummer and a bagpipe player, who together present and perform contemporary and non-traditional versions of beloved folk-sounds.
The Estonian singing singer-songwriter Marten Kuningas is set to release his second record Praktiline Mees in autumn, with the Estonian press having already dubbed it ‘one of the most anticipated records of the year.’ Kuningas creates his unique melodies by experimenting with the sounds produced during rehearsals and performances.
For his live shows, the composer and guitarist Agro Vals usually invites up to eight people to perform all of his studio material. The band’s music cannot be pigeon-holed into a specific genre; their instrumental tracks are systematically versatile, with the only prerequisite that they be as groovy as possible.
Estonian music producer and artist Kali Briis aka Alan Olonen describes his music as being a bit naive and simple, but also sharp by the sound and well systematised. His work spans many genres and reflects his emotional range, from gloomy electronica and relaxed r'n'b to energetic electro, upbeat rock and elvish pop. Kali writes, composes and produces all his music by himself; he also plays all the instruments himself and uses computer programs as little as possible. His newest album "Say Whaat? (2013) won the title of Best Alternative Album at this year’s Estonian Music Awards.
Within the constantly increasing Estonian folk and indie music scene, Three Leg Dog is a band that stands out. Their psychedelic rock style is seemingly influenced by all the legends of the genre.
As previously announced, the Lattelecom stage will feature Kraftwerk, Bastille, Ellie Goulding, Elbow, The Kooks, The 1975, Daughter, Anna Calvi, The Horrors, You Me At Six, AlunaGeorge, NONONO, FM Belfast, And So I Watch You From Afar.
Nordea stage will host Tricky, Chet Faker, Pharoah Sanders Quartet, Laura Mvula, Junip, Temples, Of Montreal, MØ, Future Islands, King Charles, Kid Karate, Justina Lee Brown&Latvian Blues Band, Birth Of Joy and Dzelzs Vilka Jauno Jāņu Orķestris.
